Laundry

Charlie and Freddie send their exquisite laundry, consisting of 30 pieces, to the laundry. Freddie explains that since his bundle contains half the cuffs and a third of the shirt collars, it should cost 27 cents, since 4 shirt cuffs are worth the same as five necks. Hop Lee, who is not very proficient in mathematics, wants to know how much should Charlie charge for the other bundle.

Solution

If there were 30 pieces of clothing and Freddie was charged 27 cents for half the cuffs and one third of the shirt collars, there had to be 12 cuffs and 18 necks, so Charlie should 39 cents, since the necks are worth 2 cents and the fists 2 and a half.
